Latex allergy has become a health problem, and even an occupational disease of increasing importance in the last years. Latex allergy is responsible for a wide spectrum of clinical symptoms ranging from a mild dermatitis to severe anaphylaxis. Therefore, an investigation for latex allergy should be considered for high risk groups. Then, it will be possible to take precautions in order to prevent life threatining allergic reactions by exposure to latex. In this case report, we present a 62-year-old male patient operated for sigmoid colon tumor who developed the characteristics of latex hypersensitivity reactions postoperatively. We conclude that when atopic patients are exposed to latex products, the cases should be investigated with respect to latex allergy and the necessary protective precautions should be taken for latex hypersensitivity.
