Epics which are accepted as one of the oldest literary genres are the products of folk literature based on narration. There is a need for detailed studies on narrative methods used in the texts of epics so that studies of epics reach more successful level. As in the case of other literary texts based on narration, the presentation of a hero occurs with specific narrative methods in epics, too. Methods used in the process of the presentation of a hero in narrative texts can be analyzed under these titles; "naming", "characterization" and "presentation". In this article, it was analyzed narrator's usage of narrative methods in the presentation of the hero in the Uyghur text of the Oghuz Khan epic. In this scope, first of all it was given an outline of the narrative elements, especially "narrator" and "narrative methods" used by narrator, appeared in the texts of epics. After that, it was analyzed narrator's usage of narrative methods in the presentation of the hero in the text of the Oghuz Khan epic and general conclusions on this subject were drawn. Based on the fact that it is one of the oldest written texts of the Turkish epics, the Uyghur text of the Oghuz Khan epic was chosen as a research subject. The narrative methods used in this epic show strong resemblance to the narrative methods used in the texts of the epics formed after it within the Turkish epic telling tradition. From this point of view, it was attempted to be enlighten the matter of the narrative methods used by narrator in the presentation of a hero on this first text example within the Turkish epic telling tradition.
